Using the engine oil information: Alfa 147

Match the engine and specification

Check the exact engine or variant before choosing oil. The viscosity grade is only part of the requirement: the manufacturer approval or performance specification must also match. Similar model names can have different engines and oil requirements.

Capacity is not a top-up quantity

A listed capacity may relate to an oil change with a filter, rather than the amount needed to top up. Follow the correct checking procedure and use the dipstick or electronic level indication. Add small amounts and recheck; do not pour in the full capacity when oil is already present.

Avoid overfilling

Check on level ground and follow the vehicle instructions for engine temperature and waiting time. Keep the level within the specified range. If the level changes unexpectedly or an oil warning appears, investigate it rather than assuming a top-up is always the answer.
